I can certainly relate to that, perfectly good reason to avoid any unnecissary social interaction. From personal experience, it's all to easy to give people the wrong impression when you're not comfortable with them, and furries are very good at both making a fuss (omfgdrama!) and being... Well... People. It doesn't take man to make a room feel crowded, if you know what I mean.
Anyway, hope the year carries on as it started for ya :)
